2006 Softball Game 1 (5/2/2006)

And begin it did... with a thrilling 7-7 tie, in a game few will forget, but even less will remember. Despite having never played softball, the new TargetRx ace, pitching machine Blin took the mound and the other team was immediately intimidated by his large stature. Blin immediately developed a rapport with catchers Meg and Kim, as due to their signals, he got the seasons first strikeout. With a swirling wind, the local cameraman's tripod was knocked over during the first inning, yet young Blin fought through the distraction and came up big to get the first two outs, as JR "looked on."

TargetRx then proceeded to give up a few runs, just to make the game interested, and to see how young Blin would pitch when trailing. TargetRx came back, behind key hits from Erin and Kelly, as Blin settled down, and began to trust his defense, which wasn't necessarily the right thing to do. With new 3rd baseman "Hit King" Golden filling in for Prigge, and Ozzie Smith-like GLG at short, TRx almost turned numerous double plays, yet fell short as the relay from second kept being vital seconds late. Even the outfield saw some excitement, including a collision between Orr and Manny, Manny's NFL draft position falling after his near Willie Mays impression missing a hail mary fly ball, and a Mad Elf sighting in RC, which sent most of the crowd running for their lives...

The defensive play of the game/quotes of the game came in one of the innings between 1 and 7, as a fly ball was hit to right-right center, between Lori and Berardi. As Berardi slowly rolled the ball into Young Johnson, the other team cheered for the batter to run home and test Remington's arm (quote- "he's the 2nd baseman, he couldn't throw you out if he was standing on home"). Yet somehow, the runner did not score, as he saw the large stature of a man wearing some sort of strange, yellow headpiece standing at home, and got scared...

While Greg's bloody, sliding takedown to break up a potential double play was a close second, the offensive play of the day also involved Berardi, as in his usual fashion, and in the words of Forrest Gump, "he just felt like ru-u-u-u-n-n-n-i-n-n-n-g...," as was thrown out at third, due to sliding, and lifting his foot up for the 3rd baseman to tag. Due to Berardi's baserunning miscue, TRx trailed going into the bottom of the 7th, down by 2 runs. A lesser team would have folded under this deficit, with certain former team members named Jeff Kohl banging their heads against the fence. However, after two base hits by Orr and B-RAD, TRx had the tying run on 2nd, with the heart of the lineup coming up. Remington got in the 1st run with a sac fly, so TRx's chances came down to Berardi on third base, with a chance to make up for his earlier gaff. A ground ball to short by the Hit King looked like trouble, as the fielder attempted to look B-Rad back to third before throwing to first, yet with elf-like speed, Berardi took off for the plate and made it in just before the throw arrived to tie the game as the crowd went wild and elves around the world smiled, as they were no longer mad.

Thanks to all that came out for the game- Berardi, Blin, Hit King Golden, GLG, Kim, Lori, Manny, Meg, Orr, Erin, JR, Kelly. Next game is Monday against intimidating team 1...
