Softball Game (5/31/2006) - Victory At Last

With the team in disarray due to Berardi's coaching, the majority of Team TRx turned to their only friend before last night's game against Kreisher Miller- alcohol. Fueled by this liquid sustenance of numerous beers and a few shots, TRx finally won their first game of the season, 11-1 in 4 innings of play.

With Ben "Tripod" Lin back on the mound, the team put in its best defensive effort of the season (0 errors), and even Berardi couldn't screw this one up. Playing without regular 3rd baseman Hit King Golden (who was dropped to the minor leagues after his 0-4 showing last week), Young Johnson took over at the hot corner, playing his 4th position in 4 games. The crowd was wary of his defensive ability at such an important position, but Remington stepped up to the challenge, using his blazing speed to show his range.

The game started out as a pitchers duel, with the score tied at 1 after the first inning, off a Berardi (4-4) home run, and remained tied until the pivotal third inning. Fueled by key hits by Orr (2-4), Remington (3-4), Legrand (2-4), and Gaspar (1-3), TRx put 4 runs on the board to take an insurmountable lead. The defense continued to hold, led by Tom's (2-3) glovework at second base.

In the fourth inning, TRx exploded, scoring six straight runs to start the inning. This rally was led by Buonocore's (3-3) explosive baserunning, as he turned an apparent single into a double, sliding into second, and in the process, leaving half of his leg on the field. The alcohol consumed before the game came in handy here, to both numb the pain, and act as a disinfectant, yet further treatment (more alcohol) would be needed after the game. Ben Lin (2-3) and Kelly (1-3) followed up with key basehits to continue the rally.

Up 11-1, TRx held Kriesher Miller scoreless in the 4th, to win by the infamous 10-run rule, in front of fans Dana, Sam, the Brightcliffe family, Meg and her dog, who appeared after GLG's stirring rendition of "Where My Dogs At." Ana was clearly disturbed with the presence of Bill's kids, as she was forced to curtail her cursing, although she was seen trying to give them cigarettes in between innings.

An additional inning was played for fun, as the crafty left Mad Elf Berardi came in to pitch. In response, the other team decided to mostly bat lefty as well. Yet they still continued to crush Berardi's weak pitches to all fields. Berardi also had a throwing error, pulling Orr off 1st base on a routine dribbler to the pitcher, which may or may not cost B-Rad $5, based on a bet before the game on who would have more errors- Orr or Berardi. B-Rad also made his presence known on a potential play at the plate, as he did the Mad Elf dance in front of Buonocore, who was catching, to the delight of Bill's kids and fans throughout the land of elves.

Next game is Wednesday, 6/7 at 5:15 against Decision One. Alas, Buonocore will be missing from that game, meaning someone else will have to attempt the write-up. After hearing this news, Berardi cried... "Waaaaaaaa, Ken won't be able to do the write-up... waaaaaaaaa... I can't do it because no one will understand my elf language... waaaaaaaaaaa... maybe I can get the game moved to Tuesday instead... waaaaaaaaa."
