2006 Volleyball Game 1 (5/18/2006)

TRx opened up the Volleyball season last night with a thrilling 2-0 victory (15-3, 15-7) over the Sting Arrays, playing a true team game despite missing the glue that doesn't hold us all together, big tipper Young Johnson (JR). Rumor has it he was in Spain, as the Spanish national team is recruiting slow white guys with bad knees to take them back to the bottom of the pile in international competition. Coach Golden, playing with a heavy heart, as he missed his brother, obviously learned much from former captain, Greg from Finance's great leadership during last seasons exciting playoff run, as the team was well-prepared for battle. Fans of the TRx sports program couldn't help but notice that Golden led to volleyball team to its first victory while Coach Berardi still hasn't gotten his first softball victory, as the calls for the Elf's resignation grew louder...

Newcomers JC and Monika made their presence known immediately, as Jonathan put to use the skills he gained from his previous attendance at a volleyball class. He put on a clinic, as the other team cowered in fear after he spiked it on one of their heads and the guys toupee flew off. Monika also played well in her TRx debut, displaying a solid serve and quick reflexes. TRx flew out to a 11-3 despite playing with only 5 in the sand, as Ana was late to the game. As she arrived to the music of "Enter SandmAna" the fear in the other teams eyes increased. AT immediately started playing the mental game, loudly unleashing a vast array of expletives, despite the presence of children in the area. Fueled by Blin's patented horizontal dives, GLG's infamous sky hook, and KB's intimidating leg-kick serve, TRx dominated much of the game.

The first set ended with the closer, GLG serving out and getting the last 7 points of the set. In the second set, TRx started experimenting a bit more, even pulling out last season's play of the year, Play A. After scaring all the children away with her mouth, Ana attempted to serve overhand. However, as the ball flew into the net, she exclaimed "#$*@&$, I was trying to hit it so hard!" We all know what that's like... As this point, all the other team could do is laugh at themselves, and laugh they did, as one of their team members spent much of the second set giggling like a schoolgirl... but a schoolgirl he was not, as he was a 40 year old dude.

Tragedy almost struck after the game. In Ana's rush to get out of there and go find another gathering of small young children to curse at and offer cigarettes and alcohol, she almost ran over Blin and his tripod, as Blin was trying to capture the highlights of game through photography. Blin got clipped a little bit and let out a scream "Oh my god, it hurts" to which Golden replied, "That's what she said," and Blin replied, while writhing in pain on the ground, "To me!" before passing out from the pain.

Thanks to Greg from Finance, Golden, Blin, JC, Monika, and Ana for coming out and playing, and to G. Smith and Dana for providing us with the fan support we deserve. Next game is on Monday, as we look forward to being blessed with the presence of Young Johnson to ruin our team chemistry.
